An Experiment with Kratom

As I have experienced issues with pain for some time — I get weekly migraines — I am always on the look out for new sources to fight it that aren’t super-charged opioids. Alas, medicinal marijuana is also not an option in the state I live in.

That all being said, I am NOT a medical professional. Trying this yourself, without first consulting with a trusted primary care physician, is not recommended. I post my findings here for those who can perhaps use it.

I had tried Kratom some years ago before I was wracked with the migraines — don’t ask me which strain, I’m not sure. I vaguely remember the effects from that initial try as too stimulating — but I am also sure I over-indulged in it, a mistake I will not repeat.

With the increasing pressure by the drug warriors in the federal government to ramp up their futile efforts in the drug war, and make Kratom a regulated substance, I thought I would try it again before they get far. A very good friend recommended journaling the effects — I agreed with her. What follows are observations.

I am 6'1", about 210 pounds, my tolerance for opioids is high (I’ve tried most all besides heroin).

2/23/18–11:29 AM Took two capsules from the 100 Capsules Maeng Da Kratom bought at local head shop. No food in stomach. 2 20mg Propranolol capsules about half an hour earlier (something I take daily in the morning) and 200 mcg Levothyroxine at same time.

Nothing else but a cup of coffee sugar and cream in stomach.

12:19 PM — Took 2 25mg Diphenhydramine for allergies but also to see if opioid agonist activity of the Kratom can be improved the way Diphenhydramine does with any conventional opioid.

12:40 PM — Noticing slight analgesia, roughly equivalent to a bit of codeinated cough syrup. Pain from headache when I got up was about a 6. Now at about a 4.

Slight stimulant effects noticed, beyond what I know I get from coffee. Not unpleasant. Slight uplift to mood on this dreary day.

1:23 PM — Third capsule. Food coming in roughly 35 minutes.

3:00 PM — Fourth capsule. Finished O’Griff’s toasted ravioli about 30 minutes ago. Slightly diminished effects, probably from food.
